This site is a kind of 'portal' to the richness that is 'Texas' - its past, present, and even future. Nothing to 'buy' here, but much to 'see' here. The links across the top of the page will outline the sections. Basically, we have almost 900 Notable Texans, past and present, their names with a link to find out more for each one. Then there is what people quoted have thought of 'Texas,' past and present, from before it was a state, and after, right up to the present - over 250 views of their lives in 'this whole other country.' Also included is a detailed Timeline of Texas history, right up to the present, with over 1150 entries. We hope you will celebrate with us in this 'Tribute to the Lone Star State.' Also included HERE are many other Texas Links [Current for now; Links keep changing] you will find interesting.
For those who want 'just the highlights,' of Texas' history, there is a '50 top Texas Events' listing [click here], and clicking on the number of each will bring up a sentence or more about it for more detail. Also, don't forget the three pages of LINKS to other Texas websites and resources. [Click Here]
An additional bonus -- there is a Texas History book [click HERE] (by chapters) written for elementary age children to learn about the rich early history of what we know of how Texas came to be. It is entitled "Texas History Stories," written more than a century ago now to teach elementary school children about Texas history.
This book, of 255 pages, was written at the beginning of the last century (1901) by the Principal of the West Broadway School in Galveston, Texas. Fascinated by Texas History himself, the author, Mr. E. G. Littlejohn, was also the Secretary of the Texas Historical Society in Galveston, and wanted to share his love for the Lone Star State with elementary age students. By the 1920s, this book had become part of the basic education of young Texans, being used as one of the 'assigned reading' books in the public schools. If your parents or grandparents grew up in Texas, it is quite possible they will remember using this book in school, as they learned about the lore of Texas' early history. Since it was published in 1901, it is now in the 'Public Domain' (concerning copyright laws), and can be shared with you in its complete text. Reprints may also be found on the Internet at Amazon, Google Books (scanned), and other current outlets. By using a "text to speech" reader, found in many main-line web browsers, it could also be read/heard in English or Spanish.
