1968 10/6/1968 The first international exposition in the South of the U.S., the 'HemisFair,' closes in San Antonio.

1969 4/3/1969 Texas-born (Fredericksburg) American Hall of Fame thoroughbred racehorse trainer Max Hirsch dies at the age of 88.

1969 6/1/1969 Lyndon B. Johnson State Historical Park opened, which included his Texas home.

1969 6/8/1969 Houston Intercontinental Airport opens, replacing Hobby as the city's main airport.

1969 7/20/1969 Apollo 11 lands on the Moon, and the first word spoken by a man (astronaut Neil Armstrong) on the Moon is the name of the Texas City, "Houston."
