1842 9/20/1842 The Governor and Department Heads temporarily move their offices from Austin to Washington-on-the-Brazos, taking the archives with them, as a result of serious attacks on San Antonio and the vicinity by Mexican General Woll earlier in the month.
1842 9/24/1842 The combined forces of Colonel Caldwell and Colonel Edward Burleson march victoriously to San Antonio.
1842 10/25/1842 The pioneer of the Texas and New York packet line, the "Star Republic", arrives at Galveston from New York on her first voyage. She is the first ship to fly the national flag of the Republic of Texas.
1842 12/23/1842 The Texas army crosses the Rio Grande and captures the town of Mier without opposition. The Army returns to the Texas side of the river, taking the alcalde (Mayor) and a priest as hostages.
1842 12/31/1842 Known as "The Archives War", Austin citizens keep the state's papers from being moved to Houston.
1843 3/25/1843 Prisoners of the Mier Expedition draw from a pot either white and black beans - the 17 who draw black beans are executed by the Mexicans by order of Santa Anna.
1843 7/14/1843 The Texas Navy ends its career July 14, 1843. After skirmishes with Mexican forces off the coast of Yucatan, the ships return to Galveston where they are decommissioned, only to be recommissioned into the United States Navy.
1843 12/28/1843 Rebecca Cummings, who is engaged to William B. Travis when he goes away to fight at the Alamo, marries another man, David Portis.
1844 4/12/1844 As Secretary of State John C. Calhoun and Texas officials agree, Texas becomes a U.S. territory.
1844 5/21/1844 Physician Abbe Alzu Ledbetter of Lavaca County is born in Alabama.
1844 8/15/1844 President Houston calls out the militia to bring an end to the Regulator-Moderator War.
1844 9/2/1844 Anson Jones succeeds Sam Houston as president of the Texas Republic.
1844 9/16/1844 General Santa Anna signs an order for the release of 104 Texas prisoners, September 16,1844. It is rumored that this is in honor of the last request of his dying wife, who sought to alleviate the plight of the prisoners.
1844 9/24/1844 After release by Santa Anna from the Perote Mexican prison, members of the Mier Expedition begin journey home to Texas.
1844 12/9/1844 Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas, takes his oath of office.
1845 1/25/1845 U.S. House of Representatives votes to admit Texas to the United States.

1845 2/28/1845 The Congress of the United States of America passes a resolution to annex Texas.
