2015 5/18/2015 Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law preventing cities from banning fracking. 

2015 5/25/2015 In Texas a five-year drought came to a dramatic end, as a straight month of rain built into a flood that destroyed more than 1,000 homes. At least 21 people were killed, including 5 in Houston, as spectacular flash flooding hit Texas and Oklahoma.

2015 6/4/2015 Texas Governor Rick Perry announced his second bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

2015 6/9/2015 A U.S. federal appeals court upheld parts of Texas' strict anti-abortion law. The decision could leave as few as seven abortion clinics operating in the state.

2015 6/13/2015 Bombs were planted outside Dallas Police headquarters in an attack early today that may have involved as many as four gunmen firing automatic weapons. Snipers shot and killed James Boulware in a standoff by the Dallas police headquarters.

2015 7/2/2015 The U.S. Department of Justice said BP Plc has reached a settlement with U.S. authorities and will pay about $18.7 billion in damages for water pollution caused by the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The agreement settles claims against BP by the government and the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Florida.

2015 7/2/2015 Whataburger, a Texas restaurant chain with 780 locations in ten states, published an open letter on its website saying it will not allow the open carrying of guns in its restaurants.

2015 7/5/2015 The UNESCO World Heritage Committee approved the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, as a world heritage site, and four other Spanish Roman Catholic sites were also approved.

2015 8/30/2015 In Texas a statue of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War, was taken down from its pedestal outside the clock tower of the University of Texas campus in Austin. It was to be relocated to the Briscoe Center for American History on the university campus.

2015 11/9/2015 The U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans upheld a Texas judge's injunction blocking the Obama administration's immigration initiative until legal challenges to the program are resolved.

2015 11/10/2015 A Texas grand jury returned sweeping indictments for all 106 cases brought before them on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity following the deadly shootout between biker gangs outside a Waco Twin Peaks restaurant in May.

2015 11/24/2015 A rocket from Jeff Bezos Blue Origin private space company landed upright following a test flight in West Texas.

2015 12/2/2015 Texas sued the U.S. government in an effort to block six Syrian refugees from resettling in Dallas this week. On Dec 4  Texas stopped trying to block Syrian refugees from resettling in the state.

2016 1/25/2016 Officials said a Texas grand jury investigating allegations that a U.S. abortion provider sold organs of aborted fetuses,  instead indicted two anti-abortion activists who secretly filmed the event, manipulating the film.

2016 3/16/2016 Royal Dutch Shell PLC and Saudi Arabian Oil Co. said they will split up the assets of their joint U.S. venture, which will see the kingdom's state-owned producer take full ownership of America's biggest oil refinery, in Port Arthur.

2016 5/7/2016 Voters in Austin, Texas, rejected a $9 million campaign by Lyft and Uber to overturn a requirement for fingerprinting drivers for ride-hailing companies. In response, Uber and Lyft on May 9 halted services in Austin.

2016 5/12/2016 The Obama administration said public schools must permit transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their chosen gender identity. Politicians in Arkansas, Texas and elsewhere soon vowed defiance.
